Nov 17, 2014 Monday Delhi

Lot of driving around town today.  We didn’t stop at the Delhi Red Fort as we had already seen the Agra Fort and apparently there are a lot of similarities.  Some of the sites we saw today included:

- Sikh Gurudwara Sis Ganj – a Sikh temple.  It was very interesting and very beautiful inside (no pictures allowed inside).

Adjacent to the temple is a facility where they prepare two meals a day for anyone who would like a meal.  We toured the kitchen and saw about 20 people chopping vegetables, another 15 or 20 making naan and others cooking in large pots.  There are no tables and chairs in the dining room.  Everyone sits on mats on the floor.  All the cooking is done by volunteers .
Prepping Vegetables for the community meal
Making balls of dough for Naan (Indian Bread).
Baking the Naan on a large griddle.
The crowd waiting for lunch.
 - Qutab Minar Complex:  that included a soaring, 73 m-high tower of victory, built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi's last Hindu kingdom.

- Tomb of Moghul Emperor Humayun (built in 1569 - 1570)

- Tomb of Isa Khan Niyazi, an Afghan noble in emperor Sher Shah Suri's court, around 1547-48 AD.

- Bu Halima Tomb and Enclosure: Nothing is known about Bu Halima and the origin of the garden locally named after the lady but architecturally the enclosure-walls and the gateway of the garden belong to the early Mughal period (16th century).

On the way back to the car we saw a snake charmer in the parking lot.  Surprisingly to all, Paul made a bee-line for him and had an up close and personal interaction with a snake.  (Euwwww!)
